Reopening

Reopening September 2021

Dear Parents,

We hope you have enjoyed a lovely summer with your families. As we prepare to reopen our school for the 2021-2022 school year, we ask that you familiarize yourself with a few key points:

All of the Covid-19 safety measures that were in place in Kilteevan NS for the previous school year, will remain in place until future notice.  Please discuss the following presentation with your child before school reopens Covid19 Summary for Parents and Pupils Sept 2021. We will continue to follow Covid-19 guidelines issued by the Department of Education and the HSE throughout the school year – we will advise you of any changes should they arise.

The Department of Education have issued the following advice to parents ahead of the new school year https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/a04fc-advice-for-students-and-their-families/#returning-to-school

If you have any doubt throughout the school year as to whether you should send your child to school or not, we ask that you consult the HSE website at the following link, before deciding how to proceed https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/covid19/preventing-the-spread/keep-your-child-home/.

After any absence (including when returning to school after the summer holidays), your child will need to bring a signed Parental Declaration Form to school on his/her first morning back. The signed Parental Declaration Form should be handed to school secretary Lena at the school gate. The Parental Declaration Form can be printed from here https://www.hpsc.ie/a-z/respiratory/coronavirus/novelcoronavirus/guidance/childcareguidance/Return%20to%20Educational%20Facility%20Declaration%20Form.doc.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome back Ms. Whyte (Senior Room substitute teacher), Ms. O’Connor (Special Education Teacher), Mr. Darcy (Junior Room substitute teacher covering Principal Admin Days) and school secretary Lena. We congratulate Mrs. Lynch and her family on the birth of her baby girl – such lovely news this summer!

We look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday 1st September 2021 for the beginning of a new school year.

Le gach deá ghuí,
Mrs. Colette Brennan
Principal

February 2021

Dear Parents,

Junior Infants, Senior Infants, First Class and Second Class will return to school on Monday 1st March 2021, in line with recent Government announcements.

Some key points for parents to be aware of are as follows:

  1. Parents of children returning to school on Monday 1st March are required to download, print and complete the following Parental Declaration Form.  Your child should have the completed form in his/her hand on Monday morning to present to the teacher on duty at the school gate.

2. The following documents for parents have been issued by the Department of Education – please note that the ‘Safe Schools Advice for Parents’ document contains important information on when to keep your child at home from school.  It is important to note that headache, sore throat and diarrhoea have been added to the list of symptoms which are in the ‘stay at home and call your child’s GP’ category.

Safe Schools Advice for Parents

Given that the new ‘UK variant’ of Covid-19 is more transmissible, the Department of Education have advised for parents to err on the side of caution and keep your child at home if he/she displays any possible symptom of Covid-19.

Please use the document above ‘Safe Schools Advice for Parents’ to help inform your decision.

The HSE website also gives valuable advice to parents on when you should keep your child at home.  See: https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/coronavirus/children-and-covid-19/if-your-child-has-symptoms-of-covid-19.html

3. Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ronan Glynn has issued the following letter to parents:

Letter from DCMO to schools 260221

4. Parents are asked not to congregate outside the school gate – please engage in social distancing at all times.

5. Parents are asked to communicate with their children’s teachers via telephone call or email kilteevannsoffice@gmail.com.  Entry to the school grounds will be strictly by appointment only and a Contact Tracing Log will be completed.

6. Please watch the following video with your child to help prepare him/her for returning to school:

7. All school rules/procedures which aim to minimize risk of Covid-19 in Kilteevan National School e.g. school staff wearing face coverings, staff and pupils practicing good hand hygiene and cough and sneeze etiquette, ventilation of classrooms, enhanced school cleaning etc. will remain in place until further notice.

Thank you for your ongoing co-operation in very uncertain times.  We are really looking forward to welcoming Junior Room pupils back to school on Monday 1st March.

Take care,

Mrs. Brennan
